The Revierdampf-Team –
our programme is Plandampf

"Plandampf" means regular scheduled passenger and freight trains hauled by steam locomotives, in the 21st century. The first Plandampf events were organised in the early 90s of the previous century by railway enthusiasts with costs covered from private money and shared between the participants. From that date the steam hauled service trains with their-hard working locomotives fascinated railfans, as well as the ordinary travellers and the local population along the lines.

The members of the Revierdampf-Team have committed themselves to the organisation of such Plandampf events - on a voluntary basis without payment. We offer our experience in technical issues and railway operations to everybody who is interested in running service trains with historic locomotives and coaches - to the associations owning such stock, the railway companies, and the train operators in search of promotion opportunities.

Steam locomotives are important milestones in the history of technology and society, as they have moved people and goods over a period of more than 150 years. Nowadays, being replaced by electric and diesel traction, they can be found plinthed in the open or in museums - still impressive, but static. Much more fascinating are such machines if under steam, on specials or on preserved railways. At such occasions many travellers experience the fun of riding a steam train.

But, how was it in the old days when steam locomotives worked hard every day on freight trains, on commuter trains or express trains ?

The Revierdampf-Team intends to provide an answer to this question - to refresh the memories of those who witnessed the old days, to provide a fascinating experience to the younger ones, and to offer a surprise to those who walk along the railway track by chance - simply to provide big fun for all who want to participate.

Plandampf can attract thousands of visitors, and it brings people into the trains who have not used a train for many years, or even never before! This proved marketing effect of steam locomotives on service trains has persuaded railway companies and train operators to finance Plandampf events - please contact us in case you are interested.
